FURTHER ADVENTURES OF CUB REPORTER WALLY

6.03.07.jpg

Ferreting out the bad actors, exposing the purulating underbelly of the city, tearing the perinium of the local power structure, that's yours truly. Oh, here's another gem from my pal Steve the language-mangler. He referred to a guy as "speaking out of both sides of his tongue."

Great, great, great! I am especially in awe of the street scenes.

Absolutely wonderful, I especially love that little vignette of 23 and a half street

My neck of the woods. The boardwalk perspectives were on the money. I have a video on my site I believe labeled "Crystal Ball...." with that neptune dude in the backdrop.. Still a little chilly for me to be at the beach. Sandbridge and the Sandlings are call'n me :-]

Very nice spark thats why you are the man. I used to live on 24th street and 23.5 was always a avery nice little short cut or so to walk to the beach, nicer than the beaten path..or baby seal for that matter :)

You've given 23 1/2 a worn nobility that exceeds its Catfish Row attitude. I was born in the hospital that used to be on 25th St. and lived on 22nd until I was two. Still have a few elderly friends in that neighborhood. I much prefer your depiction of the 31st St. Neptune to the real thing.

OK, I have a technical question about these lovely drawings ... do you stand and draw such scenes as 23 1/2 Street, or do you take a little stool along, or do you just manage to find a bench each time.

Probably a dumb question, but I'm facing this myself as I walk around my neighborhood ... do I bring a stool or try to capture these things standing up. Or sit on the sidewalk.

I can't bring myself to be one of the stool people, although I pay a heavy price for it. I do most of it standing up, and it can get painful. Once in a while there's a bench. Mostly I try to find something to lean on. Something about having a cute little stool makes people think they can watch over your shoulder, which I hate. Too many things seem to get in the way when you sit down, too. Sometimes the best perspective is from the middle of the street, and that presents its own set of problems.
I'm having the same issue with the stool. The 23 1/2 Street scene looks as if you were standing in the middle of the street which prompted the question.

Once again, you are risking your life for art!
