CHRISTIANS.......*sigh*

I was a bit queasy about this one, but hey, if everyone in the room could hear them, it’s hardly eavesdropping, right? Right? And Christians of a certain type are so damn earnest. That type being the earnest type, I guess. I love being tautological. I have an overpowering urge to stick my foot in the aisle and trip earnest people. Fortunately this is one of those overpowering urges I don’t act on, like the urge to be successful. Which means that the urge is not overpowering at all, doesn’t it? One of the qualities I pride myself on is the ability to catch my logical flaws before anyone else does, thus rendering my arguments pointless and allowing you lot to go on about your lives unaffected by anything I have to say. Far be it from me to keep you from hurtling toward your appointed destiny, if you get my drift.

Don't think there's such thing as destiny myself. One big question, among the plethora of shit when you're in the school choir, is, if after committing a mortal sin you get run over by a bus and killed on the way to confession you go straight to Hell, but if you get killed on the way out after you've been and done your penance you'll go straight to Heaven, right? Is that right? But I do get your drift, far be it from you but I do. I do I do.

Frank, you're wrong. As I've told my students, God looks at our intent. If, as you say, you commit a mortal sin, intend to confess, and are killed en route, it is believed that God sees your *intent* to repent and you are thus forgiven. In fact, the Church routinely administers "Last Rites" to the deceased under the assumption that if they had the opportunity they would have confessed.

I should say "wrong at least for Catholics."

Where does the bus driver go?

Mary, not to split hairs, but what if the moment of impact were moved up to just before you decide to intend to repent? You get Frank's point, don't you? The capriciousness of it all? I'd hate to think I'm headed for eternal torment in the fires of Hell if I'm just dragging my feet a little on the intending bit.

By the way, my apologies for the difficult posting process. Those code words are really hard to decipher and they don't seem to keep the viagra salesmen out anyway. sigh.

Point taken, Mary, but I can't add anything to Wally's point nor put it any better!

What is it with the Catholics? They just can not believe that Jesus could get the job done!

I like your attitude Wally! You can see the humor in us often ridiculous christians without getting nasty.
