THE STINKY CRUSH OF HUMANITY

starbux%2011a.jpg

Oh, that was only a fleeting emotion. It's not that stinky, most of the time. But it sure was a crowd of peeps in Starbucks this morning. I always feel like I'm betraying FairGrounds when I sneak into Starbucks, but it's several blocks closer, and in 90 degree weather, I'm the one who's stinky by the time I get to FairGrounds, which, for the record, is by far a better citizen and attracts more interesting people and has a much more comfortable ambience. Okay, okya, I'll go to FairGrounds this afternoon, stinky or not.

Wow! The world really is small. I think the lady in the dark jacket was once married to my father. One thing's for sure, though. People buying coffee never look happy.

Top right fellow's my favourite. He could be a mild mannered man peering short-sightedly at a seed catalogue or a maniacal butcher plotting to mince his delinquent customers for this week's sausage special.

I always like the one's of people from behind too.

Good thing, cause when you draw people from behind, you stand less of a chance of being poked in the snoot.

I wondered about that. Does anybody ever mind themselves being drawn?

Oh, yes. They'll turn their heads or get up and walk away even if I'm shouting at them to hold still for just a minute, for Christ's sake. One time, though, a woman noticed I was drawing her and came over and took my sketchbook and, with a flourish, signed the sketch and then left. Another woman following in her wake said, by way of explanation, "She's from Hungary."

I'd rather be drawn than quartered.

The lady in the dark jacket bears a more than passing resemblance to Princess Di.
How strong is their coffee?

Looks like it's revivifying, ByronB.
