GEOMETRIC ODDITIES

octagon.jpg

In the mind of my shower, temperature is a movable feast. It moves from warm to cool to warm, as if testing my biological limits. I ride the faucet like a steering wheel, as if I'm cruising down a scenic byway. The shower responds very slowly to my moves, and in my impatience I'm usually three or four turns ahead of the changing temperature. So I really have no idea which way to turn the faucet when I'm approaching the shouting end of the scale. Taking a shower is an adrenalin- surging adventure here in Sparkyland. Thank God it only happens once a week.

Perhaps rack-and-pinion shower knobs at your next place.
